Honestly...very easy to question the innocence of ANY involved parties; especially when viewed in the historical perspective. Dietrich Bonhoefferβs famous quote is called to mind here: βSilence in the face of evil is itself evil, God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.β
Thanks Tanja - always great to hear from you and thanks for your feedback. I have been studying Islam for the last 15 years and have tried to put together something that helps provide an overview even though it may be biased from a Christian viewpoint. What challenging times we are living in. Here in the Snowy Mountains of Australia it has suddenly turned cold and we are huddled around the heater. Hope that you are in a safe part of Germany and can get to the wonderful lake. I took a photo of our greenhouse at the start of the Feast of Tabernacles - Sukkot which I had meant to send you. I'll send it on email.
Iβm afraid I donβt believe in any of the Christian perspective youβve provided here at all. The idea of Satan causing so much evil to innocents whilst God sits back hiding his time is to me anyway repulsive. However the observations youβve made about Islam and the pathetic West, both major players in formenting antisemitism are very accurate and our enormous sin. The West owes Israel a debt. Not prayers. The week has moved me solidly away from Christianity and towards Judaism. I am hoping to convert in the next few weeks. I canβt and wonβt allow this horror on my conscience. The weekends events were more than tragic. And the individuals involved not guided by Satan but by their own souls. We need to stop batting this away to lucifer and start accepting we make choices as intelligent beings and are responsible adults.
Thanks Alison for sharing your viewpoint and I appreciate it and respect it. The whole situation is horrific and I agree that the West owes Israel a great debt and we need to stand with them and support them. There is no simple story to the horror of evil. I can't claim that my viewpoint expressed in the post is a standard Christian one and happy to be critiqued.
Sorry I donβt have any more words right now. But thanks and apologies if I sounded rude. I just donβt feel Christian anymore. My heart literally is torn apart for Israelβs people.
Thank you for this amazing post, Reuben, albeit it does take some of my optimism - still quite some left though - and gives so much food for thought. Admittedly I am not as well informed about the ongoing conflict as I should be and can relate to your insight. Again, thank you and wishing you a wonderful weekend.
Calm and measured spiritual analysis in a troubled and ever more fractious world.

No apologies needed. My heart is broken too. The whole horror is almost impossible to take in.
