Wonderfully written as always Reuben! Germany is probably one of the most climate-obsessed countries and has incorporated in its laws that a lockdown for the climate is possible at any time. We have only seen the tip of the iceberg and need to keep the faith.
It's a good question Michael and one would hope that wisdom comes with life experience. However many of us continue to make the same mistakes again and again and our best efforts seldom bring good results without a world view that involves a "fear of the Lord"
